Cosmetic Dentures

Alternative solution for missing teeth

Cosmetic Dentures in London

Gone are the days when the people of London have to wear grotty old dentures!

Modern cosmetic dentures are now far more comfortable, acceptable and in fact you’d be surprised at how many people are actually wearing dentures without you knowing.

If you no longer have any of your natural teeth you have the option of either having:

If you have several missing teeth, possibly from some time ago, then you will benefit from having dentures as they will provide support for your cheeks and lips. When we design your dentures this way it can reduce the amount of lines and wrinkles around your face, this has the result of making a more youthful look and can literally take years off you.

This is the difference between a denture without any thought, and a denture from The Dental Centre London.

What are cosmetic dentures made from?

Dentures are removable replacements for your missing teeth, designed to look and function like your own natural teeth and surrounding gum tissues. They are generally made from an ultramodern acrylic material which is high-strength and durable. If you look after the dentures then this material is unlikely to staining or darken and will remain fresh and natural looking for many years.

Partial dentures to replace a few missing teeth

Many local people in the Euston and wider London area have only a few teeth missing, if this is the case then a partial denture could work well for you. We generally design these with small clips (known as clasps) which grip the surrounding teeth and hold a partial denture in place.

Again it is down to precise design to ensure that these clasps or clips are minimal and whenever possible are not seen. We also need to ensure that these clips really do hold the denture firmly in place and do not strip the gum away from the tooth, which can happen in cheaper dentures.

If you’re looking to keep the cost of dentures lower than this is one of the problems which can arise from poorly made dentures. Cheaper dentures have a tendency to rub against the gum, over a period of this time this can pull the gum away from the tooth as it irritates the soft tissue. When this happens it is possible that the bone can also resorb which ultimately leads to tooth loss.

It really is important to ensure that you have good quality dentures, so sometimes paying a little more for your dentures in the long run means the cost of wearing good quality dentures is actually very low!

Cleaning dentures

Broken DenturesOne of the most common reasons that people break their dentures is when they drop them in the sink. We therefore always recommend that whenever you clean your dentures it is a good idea to fill the sink with a couple of inches of water. Then if you accidentally drop your dentures they will fall into water and not onto a hard ceramic sink.

Whilst your dentures are always very strong, just like toast always lands butter side down if you drop it, Murphy’s Law says that your adventure will land on a corner which can end up breaking it.

We also recommend that you purchase a special denture cleaner as some toothpastes can be rather abrasive if you use them on dentures. A special denture cleaner will act to remove the biofilm layer which forms over the top of your dentures and indeed teeth all day. If this biofilm layer is not removed it can turn into plaque.

These special cleaners with dedicated denture cleaning tablets will ensure that the biofilm layer is removed adequately at the end of each day and so will keep your denture feeling fresh and new for many years.

Wearing dentures

If you already have dentures, it is still important to continue to have regular dental check-ups to ensure that the soft-tissue remains healthy. Your denture will be held in place either by clips on the surrounding teeth, or if you have no teeth it will be held in place by the suction against your gums. If your denture does not fit your gums exactly then the suction will be reduced and the dentures will become loose.

For this reason it is still important to maintain your regular health checkups, your dentist will be able to check that the gums still fit exactly inside the denture. If they don’t then it is possible to ‘reline’ the denture with some fresh acrylic to ensure that it actually fits your gums again, thereby restoring the suction and holding your dentures in stronger again.

I’ve been coming to Dr Jones for about ten years now and I’ve always been impressed by her attention to detail. I’m a fairly nervous patient and she’s done some fairly complex work on me with utterly no pain and to a really high standard. I had grinding pain for a number of years and she’s tailored a splint for me to successfully get rid of it. I briefly tried a new dentist when I moved house, but it just wasn’t the same and have since returned to her and now make the long commute to see her because of the level of care she provides. Highly recommend!read more

Been to my second appointment at dental smiles had my impressions done it was a breeze, I have a diabolical gagging reflex so I did what Dr Patel asked me to do and I went through it without any gagging whatsoever, in past times at other dentists it was always a rush to get you in and out with no consideration for the patients but at dental smiles what they have to do you comes second the nerves disappear after a reassuring chat and gentle approach they go through everything without any problems, which is why this is the dental practice to head for when you have any problems what so ever, don't be afraid of this practice, they are out of this world, ggggreat workread more

Told I needed a crown for a simple filling which fell out. Decided to trust her word and get it done. When the temporary filling fell out, she was unavailable for a week, while I called every day, walking around with a hole in my mouth. Turns out she actually was in the practice, but was too keen to leave every day at 5pm to provide basic care to her customers. Also told I needed a filling on another tooth for a superficial spot of decay. Saw another dentist about this who advised this is an out of date practice - superficial decay can recover and is best left to heal until it becomes a problem. Now I suspect the crown was also overkill to hand out a larger bill. I was also advised to get a splint, which would cost £900 - the "Rolls Royce" of splints (how very professional...). Another dentist advised that this can be done for £450. Not the same "Rolls Royce" - but they at least provide a more affordable option. Takes ages to get appointments - don't expect anything for 2 weeks. Receptionist seems to think she runs the practice. Bottom line is this place is run as a business, not a health care facility. Private patients are subsidising care for students, but don't expect any better service for your hard earned money - you're just a number in their books, and they're going to try making that number as large as possible.read more

An appointment of mine had to be rescheduled and the process was very straightforward and with no inconvenience, so am grateful to them for that. Good price and friendly, but I was told I need a filling however another dentist (who family members have used and trusted for years) assured me that I don’t. I got the impression that they were more interested in me spending money than the health of my teeth. The dentist also recommended I pay something like £50 to attend a session on brushing. Overall not great.read more

Carla and her team have looked after my teeth for 5 years now and I have always received excellent service even though I can be an awkward patient particularly with taking impressions. Under her care I have become a less nervous dental patient. Gemma the hygienist also performs wonders to my teeth and in a very professional manner. The surgery has ultra modern equipment, with excellent reception staff who are always helpful. I highly recommend the practice.read more
